BETTER HEALTH AND WELLNESS
THROUGH CHIROPRACTIC

Why is chiropractic care important for overall health? Consider the following research:

INFANTILE COLIC

Klougart N, Nilsson N, Jacobsen J.
Journal of Manipulation and Physiological Therapeutics 1989;12(4):281
Infantile colic treated by chiropractors: a prospective study of 316 cases.

  • Success rate of 94% within 2 weeks of commencing care
  • Colic stopped in 60%, improved in 34%
  • Average daily length of colic decreased from 5.2 hours, to 2.5 hours after first treatment
  • A further decrease to 0.65 hours was reported over the next 2 weeks of treatment
  • 51% of the infants had previous unsuccessful medical treatment
BLOOD PRESSURE

Yates R G, Lamping DL, Abram NL, Wright C.
Journal of Manipulation and Physiological Therapeutics 1988; 11(6):484
Effects of chiropractic treatment on blood pressure and anxiety: a randomized, controlled trial.

  • 21 hypertensive patients
  • Treatment consisted of upper thoracic spinal adjustments
  • Systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly in the adjusted group
  • No significant change in the placebo and control groups (non-adjusted groups)
ULCERS

Pikalov AA, Kharin VV.
Journal of Manipulation and Physiological Therapeutics 1994; 17(5):310
Use of spinal manipulative therapy in the treatment of duodenal ulcer: a pilot study.

  • 11 ulcer patients received chiropractic care
  • 24 patients treated medically
  • Chiropractic group experienced pain relief and remission demonstrated endoscopically, an average of 10 days earlier than the medical care group

DYSMENORRHEA
(Menstrual Cramps)

Kokjohn K, Schmid DM, Triano JJ, Brennan PC
Journal of Manipulation and Physiological Therapeutics 1992: 15(5):279
The effect of spinal manipulation on pain and prostaglandin levels in women with primary dysmenorrhea.

  • 45 subjects
  • Treatment and control groups
  • Concluded that spinal adjustments may be an effective and safe nonpharmacological alternative for relieving the pain and distress of primary dysmenorrhea
GERIATRIC HEALTH

Coulter et al
Topics in Clinical Chiropractic 1996: 3(2):46-55
Chiropractic patients in a comprehensive home-based geriatric assessment, follow-up and health promotion program.

Chiropractic users were:

  • less likely to have been hospitalized
  • less likely to have used a nursing home
  • more likely to report a better health status
  • more likely to exercise vigorously
  • more likely to be mobile in the community
  • less likely to use prescription drugs

HEADACHES

Nilsson N, Christensen HW, Hartvigsen J.
Journal of Manipulation and Physiological Therapeutics 1997; 20:326-330
The effect of spinal manipulation in the treatment of cervicogenic headache.

  • One group received spinal adjustments
  • One group received soft tissue treatment
  • The group receiving spinal adjustments used fewer analgesics, had a larger decrease in headache hours per day, and had a larger decrease in headache intensity compared to the control group
