Opposition to Kavanaugh appointment

Here in Virginia, I tried to call my two US Senators about my concerns about the bias in judicial appointments and Judge Bret Kavanaugh's nomination. The phone message warned me of a long wait to talk to a real person, and sure enough, it was a long wait. I gave up the telephone approach and sent the e-mail below to Senator Tim Kaine and Senator Mark Warner.

The entire process of appointments to the federal judiciary has become skewed and partisan. Senator McConnell's refusal to consider the nomination of Judge Garland, last year, is just the tip of the iceberg.

Packing the courts with people with known and narrow political biases is not in the interest of the United States, a country with a diverse population. The nomination of Judge Kavanaugh is an example of this packing and his vetting by the Federalist Society is an example of how the packing process works.

His background identifies him as an elite and accomplished Washington insider, not at all representative of our national diversity. Judge Kavanaugh's views are well enough known to understand that as a Supreme Court judge, he will not call balls and strikes but exhibit a pro executive prerogative, pro-business, and anti-women's rights bias.

I am opposed to Judge Kavanaugh's approval as a Supreme Court judge and urge you to vote against his nomination.
