This morning I listened to Senator Mike Lee of Utah, on CSPAN. He gave the opening talk at the Family Values Summit here in Washington. In his remarks he emphasized that he was speaking for THE PEOPLE and that THE PEOPLE wanted the Affordable Care Act repealed. He called it Obamacare.
He neglected to point out that THE PEOPLE reelected President Obama by a five million vote margin over Mitt Romney when the issue was the Affordable Care Act.
Further, he neglected to mention that last week a Deseret News/KSL poll by Dan Jones & Associates found that 56 percent of Utahans don't agree it was worth shutting down the government as part of the effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Mike Lee started his talk with a story about a man walking over a high bridge late at night. In the middle he sees a man outside the guard rail and fears that he is about to kill himself. He engages the man in conversation.
Do you believe in god? Yes. Me too.
Are you a Christian? Yes. Me too.
What denomination? Baptist. Me too.
Northern or Southern? Southern. Me too.
Are you a believer of the 1812 or the 1845 synod? 1845. The first man pushed the second off the bridge.
He got a laugh. I chuckled.
However, I think that says it all.
