Santorum? Bring him on!

I for one am really happy the Rick Santorum is in the Republican primary races and collecting enough wins to stay in longer. In fact, I would like to see him win the Republican nomination.

If he wins the Republican nomination I would expect to see a real debate about some of the social and constitutional issues that Santorum has come to represent. I know that the country has had these issues since its founding and they will never go away completely.

They will keep cycling back up because people don't learn history or forget. Maybe, just maybe, we could beat the issues down for a while and get around to solving the real problems facing the United States.

You know Ricky's issues:

  • Separation of church and state

If a church is competing in business (school, hospital, university, etc) does it get regulated like a business or does it get an exemption?

  • Against abortion (again church and state, is the group of cells; it is live, a person?) He used to be "pro choice" but is now "pro life."

  • Evolution is a theory (of course) and intelligent design should be taught as science.

  • There is only one kind of family: monogamous, heterosexual relationships, marriage, and child-raising. Reality, 27 percent of children raised in single parent family and six percent in grandparent families.

  • There is no constitutional "right to privacy."

  • We should have laws controlling personal sexual behavior; no" polygamy, adultery, sodomy, and other actions "antithetical to a healthy, stable, traditional family."

  • Against "radical feminism", which he claimed had made it "socially affirming to work outside the home" at the expense of child care.

  • College is elitist: "The indoctrination that is going on at the university level is a harm to our country.....62 percent of kids who go into college with a faith commitment leave without it."

  • Liberalism and moral relativism in American society, particularly within seminaries, contributed to the Roman Catholic Church sex abuse scandal: "...it is no surprise that Boston, a seat of academic, political and cultural liberalism in America, lies at the center of the storm."
I know, I know, I am an optimist. And a liberal to boot, but I have a dream…
