Tax guns, tax ammo
Well, the NRA has finally spoken.
Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said: "In a race to the bottom, many conglomerates compete with one another to shock, violate and offend every standard of civilized society, by bringing an even more toxic mix of reckless behavior and criminal cruelty right into our homes."
In other words, the killing in schools using guns is everyone else's fault, not guns or the gun lobby. He suggested putting armed police in every school to kill the next killer.
I propose one addition to LaPierre's proposal. Guns and ammunition should be taxed at the federal level to pay for these armed police and their support.
There are about 125,000 pre-college schools in the US. At $100,000 per armed police person, including support, that is only $125 billion that needs to be raised each year by the tax on guns and ammo. Let's do it! |
