Travel Ban

The travel ban sprung by the Trump Administration initially looked to me like the typical blunder of a bunch of newbies that are out of their depth. Of course, President Trump is playing to his base and throwing these kind of bones will allow him to avoid his real promises of saving coal miners and other middle Americans from destitution.

A real infrastructure program starting with heavy maintenance would help this group. The American Society of Civil Engineers estimates that the infrastructure needs of the U.S. are $3 trillion; that is with a T! But then there is the question of how to pay for it...

The real problem with throwing these domestic political bones is that they land in the gears of the foreign policy that has been developing since WWII. It has had previous setbacks, Vietnam and the Iraq invasion to name but two, but by in large it has had the goal of developing and maintaining what Henry Kissinger terms, and discusses in his book of the same title, World Order.

President Trump's 'America First' approach is damaging to the world order and its impact on inching Iran into the fold looks catastrophic. Keep in mind that President Trump's buddy, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, would like the U.S. to bomb Iran.
