This model of Old Sarum as it appeared nearly 1000 years ago is in Salisbury Cathedral. The old cathedral is in the foreground, the castle on the protected mound in the center. All that remains of the city are the protectective ditches, foundation rocks that outline the cathedral, and some of the stone walls of the castle. Grazing sheep keep the grass clipped.
