What fresh Hell...

"What fresh hell," you ask, "has George II and his merry band of planet plunderers got in store for us?"

The GOP steamroller has apparently made a brief stop at Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and decided to turn its pristine wilderness into the surface of the moon with oil wells. Well, despite turning this sanctuary into a land-based Exxon Valdez, we can be comforted by the fact that our reliance on foreign oil will be greatly reduced.

Right?

Wrong.

Even the slippery oil tycoons who have driven this legislation admit that the Refuge contains, at most, six months supply of Texas Tea. Word has it that the oil moguls are slumping in their leather wingbacks at the World Domination Club and proclaiming that their level of interest is mild at best. They probably won't net much more than a few gazillions on this gig but it's the titillating abuse of power that drives them.

Friend of the deer and the antelope, Barbara Boxer, Senator from California has pointed out that the USA could save the equivalent of eight oil fields like the ANWS over the next ten years if the EPA just closed the SUV loophole in gas consumption regulations for domestic vehicles.

George II explains in rebuttal that gas prices have rocketed up and we need to relieve "pump anxiety" for all those Humvee owners out there.

Question: is there even one domestic Humvee owner that is not a registered Republican?

So why does the GOP insist on forever demolishing this fragile eco-system for negligible reward?

I believe it is because they can.

They have a majority in the House, the Senate, and a rock-ribbed, Bible-bashing lard head at the helm. The Republicans must realize that this is their best chance to mold this country into a Corporate Eden and tear the rug out from under those socialist parasites that suck the treasury dry with their insistence on Social Security checks and affordable life-prolonging drugs.

After all, the great unwashed out there will soon go along with the destruction of the Arctic. Haven't they gone along with George's great Mideast war of retribution? Perhaps our President based his decision to go to war after reading the words of another great conservative who said:

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

Hermann Goring at the Nuremberg Trials uttered this little pearl of wisdom. Hermann, as you may have read, was Number Two in command of the Third Reich under Adolph Hitler.

Dick Cheney is our Number Two. I wonder if he had anything to do with strategy development in our current war with Iraq? Wouldn't that be a big hairy coincidence?

Shortsighted political buffoons who have become addicted to the money provided by corporations are destroying our country.

We are the only country in the world that pays through the nose for pharmaceuticals. And the pharmaceutical companies are based here in the USA. Why not charge Americans fair prices and gouge the bejabers out of the rest of the world?

Canadians seniors are not breaking their blood pressure pills in half and gambling with the grim reaper, why do ours?

I will tell you why.

Our government, like US big business, has no conscience, whatsoever.

They will lie, cheat, manipulate, cause wars, destroy the environment, give the Social Security money you earned to Wall Street, and do anything -- no matter how immoral -- to pad their bottom line and stay in power.

If voters continue to close their eyes to the way the GOP is ruining our society, then they deserve the government they have chosen.
