Log Cabin Chronicles

GLOBAL WARMING
(For Hayden)

ROBERT SEARLES

December 14th, 35 degrees and climbing to high 40s
They say
My pal Larry has one of them big outdoor boilers and its
Efficient
Not one of them old smokies, like mine what burns 10 cords
A season
It's so warm, Larry's using big blocks of
Scotch pine
No rock maple at these temps
Mister man
No sir, and that pine's dry mister, (I picked up a chunk)
So dry
That Larry's got to tie down those blocks in
The firebox
Just so's they stay and burn and don't fly up
The chimney!
They say it'll be even warmer
Tomorrow.

Robert Searles runs and writes in Hyde Park, Vermont.
