Rick Blue's Other Life
Ricky Blue
Rick Blue
is a Montreal-based humorist, singer, and writer. He and partner George Bowser are the famous Bowser and Blue comedy act. Here's his bio from their Bowser and Blue website.

Rick Blue was born in Liverpool, England, but raised in Maine, New Jersey, and Toronto. He has an MA in English from Concordia University. He has been involved in bands and media music in Montreal for over twenty years. In 1981 he won an international 'Clio' award for excellence in advertising.

He once appeared on television naked.

His life had no real meaning, however, until he began to play with Bowser and Blue. Rick plays guitar, mandolin, and harmonica, and sings in a rather pleasant baritone when George will let him.

He is also a columnist for Montreal's outstanding West Island Gazette..

An idea for Canada Day(s)

MONTREAL | I travel quite a bit in this country and spend far too much time in hotel rooms. But what I like to do while I am there is watch the local news of whichever city I am in. I find that I can learn a lot about a place by its local news broadcast.

There are so many channels all trying to be 'national' news channels. But they end up being much the same -- with overrated anchors earnestly telling the 'big' stories. And you can tell that these have been passed through committees and spun until they are so predictable and politically correct that they would bore the paint off a barn door.

You know what they are going to say and you know how they are going to say it. And you know that they will say it over and over again all day.

So to heck with the big stories. Give me the small stories.

Here's my idea. How about a national news channel called The Local News Channel? This channel would take feeds from all the major and many of the minor cities in our country. They would have 24 hours to fill with the days' news from 24 different places. Or maybe more if the local news is only half an hour.
